What the Music You Listen to Says About You
30th January 2018If you feel as though the music you listen to is a part of your identity, then you’re probably right! According to studies carried out at the University of Texas, the music you listen to reveals a lot about your character.
Below, we’ve discussed four genres and what they say about your personality.
1. Blues, classical, folk & jazz
The researchers found the people who chose the above genres as their favourite to be ‘reflective and complex’. People who listen to blues, classical, folk and jazz music are often unathletic, liberal and intelligent. It was also seen that the people in this category are more open to new experiences.
2. Alternative, heavy metal & rock
The people who listed alternative, heavy metal and rock music as their favourite genres were found to be ‘intense and rebellious’. Although these share many characteristics with the jazz/classical listeners, they’re more likely to be athletics and are less dominant over others.
3. Country, pop, religious & soundtracks
People who listed country, pop, religious and soundtrack music as their favourite genres are ‘upbeat and conventional’. The listeners were seen to be agreeable, extroverted and principled. They tend to see themselves as attractive, wealthy, athletic and politically conservative. On the plus side, this group is the least prone to depression. However, they’ve been seen to score the lowest in IQ tests.
4. Electronic, hip-hop, rap & soul
Listeners of electronic, hip-hop, rap and soul music are ‘energetic and rhythmic’ ones. They’re extroverted, agreeable, attractive and athletic, like the upbeat-and-conventional listeners above. However, they don’t share the conservatism, wealth or low IQ. The people in this group tend to have a habit of blurting out thoughts and feelings as soon as they come to their heads.
